As a professional reading this site you are most likely not a top executive. You may be looking to further your career or gain a new career. If you are in the process of this you want to have as many opportunities presented to you as you can. Networking will allow you to have this opportunity.
Almost everyone and I do mean everyone has heard of six degrees of separation. That terms refers to how everyone is somehow linked. Networking for a professional is like a strategic plan of six degrees of separation. You need to garner contacts so you can gain their contacts and so on and so forth.
Networking for a professional is ideal. You do not realize the many opportunities that you can gain by networking with various people. Networking is just as important as the work you do. Networking should be one of your daily tasks. Make it a goal to gain one new contact per day. If you have a smartphone just as most young professionals do remembering this contacts to later contact them is even easier. Save their name, number, professional title, company in your phone and a small blurb about them.
These contacts will later come in handy in your professional career. You never know when you may run into them and they may even be able to help you obtain your professional goals. Contacts should always be kept. Rolodex are no longer used so invest in a address program for your computer. Microsoft Office works greats and syncs with Blackberry. Try it out.
