Not Hired or Lost Job Because of Bad Credit
\Can Bad Credit Be the Cause of Job Loss or Missed Job Opportunity?
Many people don’t seem to think their credit is that bad. They feel that they can brush off or dodge the bill collectors and pay them when they have the money. Most don’t realize that their bad credit can be the cause of them losing their job or even being denied for a new job.
Having a great credit score is excellent but a lot of people don’t have one. Recent college graduates, single parents, divorcees, etc are some of the people who don’t have great credit scores. Most of America doesn’t have a good or great credit score! But how can having a bad score affect your job or job prospects.
A lot of jobs require financial responsibility. Bank tellers, cashiers, financial consultants, brokers, etc. All of these jobs require a credit check usually. Even some jobs without financial responsibility require credit checks. I remember having an internship/file clerk/courier position in college at a local law firm. A credit check was ran. For what? I would delivering/carrying checks worth half a million dollars around in my car at the age of 19-20. That’s a lot of responsibility! So they wanted to make sure my credit was good.
Most companies run credit checks to make sure that the person will not be a potential thief. Now of course just because you have bad credit it doesn’t mean you will take your job for jeopardy and steal from them. A lot of people with bad credit don’t even think of stealing from their job. How will you take care of your family and clean up your bad credit if you’re locked behind bars anyway?
I suggest taking the time today to pull your credit reports. I usually use MyFICO. This is the company who actually calculates your FICO score. Your FICO score is the number everyone goes by to determine if your credit is good or not. So why not get the number directly from the source. Even if you think your credit is not bad, it doesn’t hurt to look at your score anyway.
Once you get your scores and reports from MyFICO you can dispute any wrong information and starting cleaning up your bad credit. Just remember bad credit can sometimes hold you back from the dream job that you have always wanted. Nothing is worse than being told you do not qualify for a job based on your bad credit.
